Use the Earth to Cool My House? Huh?

Have you ever noticed how your home’s basement maintains a steady temperature year-round, whether it’s 40 degrees or 100 degrees outside? The reason this happens is that the ground beneath the frost line stays within the same temperature range of 55-61 degrees all year, so your cellar does, too. Geothermal systems use this idea to provide your home with cooling and heating in the most efficient and sustainable way possible. Sound crazy? It’s actually pretty simple, although the system does operate very differently from traditional cooling and heating systems, so it’s imperative to hire a trained expert for installation, repair, maintenance and replacement of any geothermal system. Luckily the specialists at D’Spain Sales & Service, Inc., have all the training and experience needed to provide your home in Helotes, TX, with the geothermal services it needs, and we are ready to help you stay cool and go green at the same time. Just call us today, and schedule an appointment with one of our geothermal experts!

How Geothermal Systems Work

Geothermal systems work by using the ground as a heat sink during the summer months and absorbing the latent solar heat from the ground in the winter months. A ground loop filled with environmentally-friendly antifreeze is used to facilitate this process, and a heat pump provides mechanical interaction. During the summer months, the ground-source heat pump absorbs the heat in your home and transfers it to the ground via the heat pump, where the surrounding Earth absorbs it; in the winter months, the antifreeze in the ground loop absorbs the surrounding heat, transfers it to the heat pump where it is concentrated, then blows the heat into your home. There are no fossil fuels used and only a small amount of electricity is needed to operate the heat pump.

Keep Cool and Be Green, All at the Same Time

Geothermal systems return 3-4 units of energy for every 1 unit they use, making them the most energy efficient systems around. If this sounds like the cooling system for your, call us today and schedule an appointment!
