Why Choose a Ductless System?

The end of the summer brings a lot of things: the beginning of school, the last of the hot weather, and the possibility that you may have to consider replacing your existing AC, especially if it’s been struggling along these past few months. While many homeowners don’t relish the idea of replacing their air conditioning systems, AC replacement provides you the opportunity to explore installing a different type of system that may better meet your cooling needs in Kerrville, TX. One option to consider is a ductless cooling system.

3 Components

There are three key components to a ductless cooling system:

  • The outdoor unit – this unit is very similar to that of a traditional split system in that it houses the condenser and compressor. If you have chosen to use a heat pump with your ductless system, the heat pump technology will also reside in the outdoor unit.
  • The indoor blowers – ductless systems deliver air via independent indoor blowers. An outdoor unit can support up to four blowers, and blowers are installed flush against walls or hung from ceilings. Each blower operates separately from the others.
  • The conduit – there has to be a way to connect the indoor blowers to the outdoor unit, and this happens via a conduit each blower has. The conduit is a small bundle of connections that includes a power cord, condensate drain line, and refrigerant line. A 3” hole is drilled into an exterior wall for the conduit to be placed in, and then the different lines are connected to the outdoor unit.

Benefits of a Ductless System

So why consider a ductless system? Here are some reasons:

  • Customized comfort – just as a zone control system offers customized comfort for a ducted system, the individual blowers of a ductless system offer the same benefit.
  • Good energy efficiency – with a ductless system, you use only the cooling you need, reducing energy usage; if you use a heat pump with your ductless system, you’ll also be using a lot less electricity.
  • Cooling and heating – if you choose to use a heat pump with your ductless system, you’ll have a single system that can provide your home with the cooling and heating it needs.
